Alan Clark on MP promotion

I've just started reading Alan Clark's first volume of diaries, which somehow I missed when it came out;

Reflecting on who is up and who is down in Westminster, he reflects that "... In the end we are all sacked and it's always awful. .... If you are elevated there comes a day when you are demoted."
