A £ multi million Eurofighter warplane destroyed a second-hand pick up truck in Libya today. The air strike was called in using high tech smart bombs.
"This shows the wisdom of using a £20 Billion weapon systems against guys in flip flops" said a senior government source. "The pick up didn't stand a chance".
The fuel that flew the aircraft to north Africa cost more than the pick up truck would have cost to buy new.
A Whitehall insider said "The smouldering remains of the Toyota sends a powerful message; it's worth spending the lion's share of your defence budget on an aeroplane designed to combat non-existent Soviet MiGs. Even if the Eurofighter won't actually have a ground attack capability for several more years, so couldn't actually have attacked anything on the ground, the point is that we're really keen to emphasise that it is out there".
"Indeed, we hope to be able to sell even more of them to Middle Eastern governments".
When are we going to stop spending our overstreached defence budget on what it suits the contractors to supply - and start giving our armed forces the right kit to fight the wars we ask them to fight for us?
