Europe on strike - will the world care?

Apparently there are a string of strikes breaking out in Spain, Italy, Belgium and Greece. Not working seems a pretty dumb way of paying off your debts.

It's almost as daft as European Commission proposals to fine member states for running up high debts. Or Irish plans to bail out banks by turning monumental private folly into ruinous public debt. It all just makes those debts grow bigger.

Somehow the Euro model of capitalism - which seems to consist of a diminishing pool of productive people forking out ever more to support a long line of dependents - looks pretty stuffed.

At precisely the moment Europe needs to adapt to a gloriously changing world, she's behaving like it's still 1960-something.
