Eurozone fiscal integration is not in Britain's interest - or Europe's

According to a report out tomorrow by Open Europe, if the Eurozone fuses into a fiscal core, Britain will be permanently outvoted on almost everything by the 17 strong block.  

Who’d have thought it, eh?   

Not, it would seem, those ministers who even last week were telling us what a jolly clever idea fiscal union would be. A little bit too clever perhaps? 

Britain should not support Europe’s fiscal integration. It’d be bad for European democracy; If you have a fiscal union, folk in different member states will no longer be able to vote for different tax and spend options. How is that in our national interest?    

It would be bad for Europe’s economy; Forcing millions of Europeans to live under a monetary regime that puts the grand design of the Brussels elite ahead of any chance of prosperity is not in the interests of our closest trading partners.

The very same people who were wrong about the question of Britain’s Euro membership in the mid 1990s are wrong about the question of the Europe’s continued membership of the Euro today.
