Happy Tax Freedom Day!

Actually, if you stop to think about it, I imagine happiness is the last thing you'll feel about Tax Freedom Day.

Today, May 30th, is the first day this year when you final stop working for the government, and start working for yourself.

As the brilliant Adam Smith Institute highlights, "every penny earned in the UK between January 1 and May 29 has been taken by the taxman to support government expenditure".

The date has got later and later over the years - and yet we wonder why our economy falters and wealth-creation happens elsewhere.

That sprawling alphabet soup of quangos - the CSA, DVLA, DSA, EA, MPC, EC et al - that preside over us, don't merely cost us our liberty and freedom.  They drain us with high taxes.

Tax Freedom Day reminds us why we need less government.
