Thirty one years ago, the US President was given advice on how to avoid "a credit crunch", "double dip recession" and a "federal budget and credit meltdown". I'm not sure the advice his successor in the White House is getting is necessarily the right advice.
David Stockman's 1980 memo "Avoiding a GOP Economic Dunkirk" apparently proposed cutting federal spending, lowering taxes, deregulating the economy and an end to the constant debauchment of the currency.
I've read references to the memo in other books, but I've not been able to get a copy of Stockman's actual advice. I'd be grateful if anyone could let me have a link to it. If you do, I'll link to it on this blog, seeing as I'm probably not the only person in Westminster who could benefit from reading it.
