I don't understand our Libya policy

Apparently there is an arms embargo on Libya – which means that Western arms can only be supplied to tyrants in the Middle East, not to Libyan people intent on self-determination.

As for talk of a “no fly” zone, I'm told that our main contribution would be to not fly over it due to lack of aircraft.

And how many of those now so quick to urge action against Tripoli were happy to line up behind the policy of rapprochement with Gaddafi?  If their first stance was so misguided, why should one have much confidence in their latest position?

It seems to me that all that King Charles Street talk of realpolitik rather than ideology, to help to contrast us with Bush and those US neo-cons, has ended in a bit of a muddle.

I do not understand our Libya policy.
