Paying for the Euro elite

They don't merely decide how we're governed. They don't simply determine public policy regardless of the electorates' wishes. It seems that we also pay for the new Euro elite to lord it over us.

According to the Telegraph, EU Commission officials "spent more than 8 million on private jet travel, luxury holiday resorts and cocktail parties ..... Commissioners travelled in limousines, stayed in five star hotels and splashed out on lavish gifts including Tiffany jewellery".

What I find so galling is the thought that these Eurocrats are able to live like this only because the folk in SW1 have consistently voted to give them the money. For all the carefully crafted word play, intended to convey an impression of Euroscepticism that isn't there, SW1 has consistently voted to give the Eurosystem more money and power.

Some of us have been prepared to vote against any further transfer of our money to the EU - even if it means surrendering all hope of elevation to the role of Parliamentary Private Secretary for Paperclips.
