PM hints at localising fuel duty?

At Prime Minister's questions, David Cameron was asked if it was true that the Deputy Prime Minister was looking to turn fuel duty in to a form of local tax revenue.  In other words, allow county and metropolitan councils to keep a share of the revenue generated in their area.

The PM didn't deny it.  Nor should he.

It is a great idea - and part of the agenda that we localists have been successfully pushing for some time now

In the coming battle between the Treasury and Clegg, we'll soon see who the true localists are depending on who lines up on which side.

Three cheers for Clegg!
