Questions for the government this week

If the EU decides on yet another Eurozone bailout, there is a real danger that they will try to force Britain to contribute.

If it happened, it would be foisted on us via so-called Qualified Majority Voting (ie the system rigged so that the Euro integrationists always win).

We urgently need to know from ministers, if this were to happen, will the government  a) vote against us being forced to contribute - regardless of the likely outcome and b) challenge the legality of such a move?  Having forced hardpressed UK households to underwrite vast Eurozone liabilities, some straight, no spin answers are needed.

At last ministers might begin to grasp why some of us made such an issue of their extraordinary failure to challenge the so-called Darling bailout deal a year ago.  At the time of the first Ecofin meeting last May when Labour was in office, we claimed we were against the bailout deal.  At the second May Ecofin meeting, when in government, no trace of opposition to it can be found.  Instead we signed off on arrangements to consolidate the deal with pan-EU fiscal coordination.

By nodding through a pan-EU bailout fund, look at the precedent that has been set - and ponder the potential implications ....

Simply reading from the script that those Treasury officials put in front of you will not do.
