The Criminal Rights Act

A couple of years back, while serving on the Joint Committee of Human Rights, I described the Human Rights Act as the Criminal Rights Act.

I had a lot of sneering lefty, Guardianistas complain. "Nonsense, Carswell" I was told "The Act makes us a civilised country".

Remind me what's civilised about a convicted axe killer bragging how Human Rights rules will now give convicts the vote?

After what's happened this week, I imagine more folk than ever now see the Human Rights rules as a Criminals' Rights Charter. More people than ever must sense the detachment that exists between the political class who allow this nonsense to happen, and the rest of us.
