At the height of the property boom, some house prices increased faster than the annual salary of those living inside them. Cheap imports reinforced a sense that rising living standards were the norm, rather than something to be worked at.
Today many of those feel good factors are working in reverse.
Economic data shows that inflation is now increasing faster than wages are growing. People are being squeezed.
Unless politicians have a very clear idea about how to hold inflation back, and allow genuine economic growth, we will have a serious problem.
