Douglas Carswell's Blog

This blog is three today

This blog is three years old today.

Thank you if you happen to be one of the 757,599 visitors who've read it over that time.

When I started blogging, I was asked how I found the time. Far from being some sort of added extra, on some days I find that the comments I post here turn out to be the most important thing I do as an MP.

I like to think blogging helps me do my job of holding ministers to account. While the House of Commons has become far more topical under Speaker Bercow - and debates in the chamber more like proper debates - it can still take an age for a backbencher to get the chance to make their point. Not on here, however.

Blogging has allowed me to connect directly with thousands of readers. I can feed into the mainstream media with less chance of having what I'm trying to say distorted by the agenda of producers and editors.

Thanks for reading.
