Douglas Carswell's Blog

15 DEC 2010

Too busy to blog

Spent much of today in the Commons chamber trying to make sure that the £3.2 Billion the government lends to Ireland is done sensibly.

I'm not sure how a 5.9 percent interest rate on £3.2 Billion overdraft extension helps reduce the amount of money Ireland owes.  Surely it will increase the amount that Ireland owes?

Nor can I say with confidence that the Treasury front bench was on receive mode.  The Sir Humphrey-types in the Treasury have given the ministers a brief, and they are sticking to it .....

Mark Reckless MP made one of the best speeches I've heard made in the Commons.  Short.  Intelligent. Knowledgeable.  Not surprisingly the minister failed to respond adequately.
