We all wished that we had won

Throughout the course of today I have been asked if I would appear on Radio 4, BBC News, Newsnight, ITV and all manner of other programmes to talk about the Oldham and Saddleworth by-election.

Each time I have politely declined. 

Why?  Because I suspect that the producers of such programmes are really looking for someone they can label "right wing" to make angry - and preferably rude - noises about the Coalition.

Talking to colleagues, I gather others that the BBC-types look to label "right wing" have been fielding similar calls too.    

I think that is unfair on my colleagues who aren't on the right of the party to suggest that the right is uniquely disappointed with the result.  We all wished that the Conservative candidate had won.
