Why is a lion chasing an antelope through Grosvenor Gardens?

Sitting atop a bus in London this morning, I spotted this bronze lionesses racing past me in pursuit of a kudu.

I can't decide if I like it or not.  Is it absurdly out of place and kitsch?  If so, why is it any more ridiculous than the rest of the pride, rigidly guarding Nelson’s column half a mile away?

Perhaps it is there to remind us of those prehistoric times when such wild beasts roamed the Thames valley?

More to the point, what happens next? Does the kudu become dinner, or bound away with one giant leap? We should be told.
