Why is the NUT trying to deny mums and dads freedom?

The National Union of Teachers seems keen to tell us that no one wants the new "free schools" - despite the fact that one in four mums and dads in their survey said they wanted one.  According to the NUT - who just happen to be campaigning against free schools - folk are just fine with the way things are.

If so, then no mums and dads will opt out of the status quo.  They won't want more choices for their kids - at precisely the time they are enjoying unprecedented choices over almost every other aspect of their lives.

If the NUT really believes this, they don't need to worry.

Meanwhile, perhaps the rest of us should question the ethics of a collectivist institution trying to determine how other people educate their children?  NUT bosses might be opposed to "free schools", but no one is forcing them to send their children to them.  So why do they try to prevent other people from doing so?
