Back in mid 1990 something, I can distinctly remember one Conservative HQ staffer telling me at some length why Britain should never rule out the option of joining the single currency.
He is now a Cabinet minister.
I'm less concerned that he got it so wrong on the question of Britain joining the Euro. What bothers me is that he - and his colleagues - may be getting it wrong again on the question of other countries now leaving the Euro. British taxpayers money is being squandered to try to keep other countries inside a currency system we believe to be flawed. Where's the sense in that?
One does not wish to keep saying I told you so.
