I recently encountered the P054A trouble code on my Ford F150 Ecoboost, and I’m hoping to get some insights on how to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. I’ve done some basic research, but I could really use some help from those who have been in the same boat.
What I’ve Found So Far
The code seems to be related to the camshaft position sensor or possibly the VVT solenoids, which could be causing performance issues.
I’ve heard that sometimes it could just be a sensor calibration issue, but I’m not entirely sure how to check.
What I’ve Tried
I cleared the code and ran the vehicle to see if it comes back, and unfortunately, it did.
Checked the wiring harness, and everything seems to be intact at first glance, but I haven’t done a deep dive yet.
Questions
Has anyone gone through this fix? What components did you end up replacing?
Any advice on troubleshooting the camshaft position sensor or checking VVT solenoids?
Would love to hear your experiences and any tips to possibly prevent future issues.
Thanks in advance for any help! Looking for all kinds of advice, whether it’s DIY fixes or if I should just take it to the shop.
I had this code pop up on my F150 last year! It was strange at first, but fixing the thermostat made a significant difference in my truck’s performance.
I’ve dealt with this code a few months ago. Just checking the coolant level and changing the thermostat fixed it right up for my F150! It’s worth a shot.
I think part of the issue may be connected to the harsh driving conditions many of these trucks endure. It’s always a good idea to monitor performance regularly.
I’ve dealt with the P054A code on my '16 F150. The check engine light came on, and I noticed reduced fuel efficiency. Turns out, it was a bad intake air temperature sensor. Check that first!
I had a check engine light for P054A too. It coincided with some rough idling and power loss. A new mass airflow sensor fixed it for me. Definitely check that as well!
