Anyone have experience with GOBI Stealth Rack for 4Runner?

I’ve been looking into getting a GOBI Stealth Rack for my Toyota 4Runner for quite some time now, and I’m seeking some advice or insights from anyone who’s installed one or is using it regularly.

Key Points I’m Interested In:

  • Installation Process: How easy/difficult was it to install? Did you need any special tools or extra help?
  • Capacity & Features: Does it hold up well when carrying roof top tents or other heavy gear? How’s the overall build quality?
  • Comparison: If you’ve used other racks, how does the GOBI stand up against brands like Yakima or Thule?
  • Experiences for Outdoor Activities: I plan on using it for camping trips and outdoor adventures, so any insights on its performance in real-world scenarios would be greatly appreciated.

Additional Thoughts:

  • Price Point: Is it worth its price for the quality and features it offers?
  • Customization: Any options or modifications you would recommend?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!

Thanks for the tips! What tools did you find essential for the installation?

You definitely need a socket wrench set and a torque wrench! I also found a rubber mallet helpful for securing the pieces together without damaging them.

One common challenge is aligning the rack properly before tightening everything. It’s best to have a buddy help hold it in place while you secure the bolts.

Great point! Did you use any kind of jig or stand to help with alignment?

No jigs needed for me, just a couple of 2x4s to prop it up while aligning. A bit of extra weight helped keep it steady too.

I really suggest having some extra hands available. I did mine solo, and it turned into a wrestling match with the rack!

The toughest part was definitely getting the old rails off. WD-40 became my best friend that day!

I would add, make sure to apply sealant to strengthen waterproofing, especially if you’re in a rainy area!

That’s a crucial tip! Which sealant worked best for you?

I used a silicone-based sealant, and it worked perfectly. No leaks so far after rainstorms!

Overall, it’s a fun project! Just be patient and keep the tools organized to avoid misplacing anything mid-install.

Exactly! Any tips on dealing with leftover parts after the installation?

I’ve had my Gobi Stealth Rack for a year now. The load capacity is impressive! It supports up to 300 lbs, which is more than enough for my camping gear. Highly recommend it!

That’s amazing to hear! How’s the installation process? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

Installation was pretty straightforward! Just follow the instructions carefully. You’ll love how it looks on your 4Runner—very sleek and modern.

Glad to hear that! How does it compare aesthetically with other racks? I’ve seen some mixed reviews.

In my opinion, the Gobi Stealth has an edge over others. The flat design blends well with the 4Runner’s shape, and it doesn’t look bulky at all—definitely adds to the vehicle’s style!
