Anyone Tried LS Block Hugger Headers? Need Some Advice!

I’m in the process of upgrading my LS engine and considering some block hugger headers. I’ve heard a lot about their performance benefits, especially in tight spaces, but I have a few questions before I make the jump.

Questions I Have:

  • Compatibility: Will these headers fit my '68 Camaro without major modifications?
  • Performance Gains: What kind of power increase can I realistically expect?
  • Installation Tips: Any specific installation tips or common pitfalls to watch out for?
  • Recommendations: What brands do you guys trust and why?

I want to make sure I choose the best headers for my setup. Any advice, experiences, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I’ve been using LS block hugger headers on my swapped project, and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in both torque and throttle response. They make the engine breathe better. Highly recommend them!

That’s awesome! I’ve also heard they can add some extra horsepower. Did you notice any specific gains in your setup?

In my experience, LS block hugger headers can really improve the sound as well. They give a mean growl that turns heads! Definitely worth considering for any performance build.

I agree with urussell! There’s something about the sound that’s just intoxicating. Plus, it feels like the engine runs smoother overall. Great investment!

Does anyone know if there are any downsides? I’m worried about clearance issues in a tight engine bay.

You definitely want to check your clearances before committing. They can be a snug fit, but the performance benefits usually outweigh the hassle!

The only ‘downside’ I found was how they can be tricky to install. But once you get them in, it’s smooth sailing!

I think the hassle is worth it for the horsepower bump alone! Anyone experiencing any issues with heat management after installing?

I’ve had no heat issues so far, but a good set of heat shields can help. Anyone else had different experiences?

I just hope the headers won’t turn the engine bay into a sauna! That would be an interesting twist on ‘performance’…

I’ve installed LS block hugger headers before, and one common issue is fitting them in tight spaces. You may need to adjust your engine mounts slightly for a better fit.

That’s a great tip! I’ve heard that header gaskets can be a pain too. Anyone have recommendations?

Fitting can definitely be tricky. I had to deal with my steering column getting in the way. It’s best to check for any clearance issues before you install them.

Good to know! What about compatibility with other components? Did anyone have issues with spark plug access?

I found that the spark plugs can get pretty tight with block hugger headers. You might need to use a swivel socket for those hard-to-reach spots!

That’s a solid idea! But what about modifying existing parts? Any must-do adjustments?

Sometimes you might have to trim your firewall for a perfect fit. It sounds extreme but necessary for optimal performance.

Wow, that’s pretty intense! Is there a way to avoid that? I prefer to keep my car intact.

If only headers were easier to fit! LOL! Seriously, keeping things simple is key. Have a professional help if you’re unsure.
