Are the Input/Output Speed Sensors the Same on 04-08 Maxima?

I’ve had my fair share of trouble with these sensors, though! They don’t always give a clear DTC. Sometimes you just have to pull them and see the condition.

Yeah, sometimes it feels like a game of whack-a-mole! You fix one thing and something else pops up. Humor can help ease the frustration. :joy:

It’s totally true! I had to replace both sensors on my '07 Maxima. Once I did, the DTCs cleared up completely.

When I dealt with the speed sensor issues, I found that checking the fuses was also critical. Sometimes, it’s just a blown fuse causing the problem. Don’t overlook the basics!

Yeah! After replacing my output sensor, I followed up by replacing the fuse too. Didn’t realize how interconnected everything is! Did you find any specific sensors misbehaving?

I’ve been looking into the wiring schematics to understand the differences better. This is a complex issue, indeed! Can anyone share more about that?

Funny you ask! I thought they were the same at first, but they have different part numbers and specs. It’s important to get the right one for your year model.

Reflecting on all this makes me realize how crucial it is to do your homework before diving into repairs. Each Maxima has its quirks, but they sure are great cars when running smoothly! :muscle:

Definitely! I just love how engaged and helpful this community is. Let’s keep the conversation going! :chart_with_upwards_trend:

I’ve done some research on the input/output speed sensors for the 04-08 Maxima. Generally, they are the same across those years, but it’s important to verify the specific part numbers. OEM parts tend to be more reliable, but some aftermarket options can be good too.

What would you recommend as the best aftermarket brands? I’ve seen a few options but am unsure which to trust.

I’ve had success with Duralast sensors for my 06 Maxima—worked well and offered good performance. Just make sure they’re installed correctly to prevent any future issues.

That’s good to hear! Did you have to make any adjustments to the installation process, or was it straightforward?

Installation was pretty straightforward, just needed a basic toolkit. Also, double-check the wiring connectors for wear. It makes a big difference!

I always prefer OEM for critical components like speed sensors. They may cost more, but reliability is worth it—especially for our beloved Maximas.

I get that! But what if someone is on a budget? Are there good aftermarket alternatives you’d recommend?

You can consider brands like BWD or Standard Motor Products. They offer good quality without breaking the bank. Just read reviews first!

That’s really helpful! I appreciate the specific suggestions. Has anyone noticed a performance improvement after changing theirs?

After replacing my sensors, the shift points were noticeably smoother! Definitely worth it if you’re experiencing any transmission hesitation.

That’s really encouraging! Any tips on how to make the installation as smooth as possible?
