Are Volkswagen Beetles Actually Safe?

I appreciate all this info! Do any of the older models offer solid safety features, or are they lacking?

Older models mostly had basic safety features. If you’re looking for safety tech, the 2012 and newer models are your best bet for more options.

And don’t forget about routine maintenance; that plays a huge role in how safe any car can be, no matter the model year.

So true! It seems like thinking of safety holistically is the way to go.

I love my Beetle—it’s like driving a little nostalgic piece of art! However, safety always comes first. Just make sure to do your research on the specific model!

If safety ratings are your priority, the Beetle won’t be the top choice compared to other compact cars. They do great in tests, but I still have my doubts.

Fair enough! It’s good to know all perspectives. Thanks for clearing that up!

I’ve owned a 2016 Beetle for 3 years. I feel pretty safe in it, but I’ve noticed it can be a bit wobbly in high winds. Just something to keep in mind!

I totally agree with you, brenda22! I also drive in high winds and feel the car’s lightness sometimes. But in the rain, it’s held its own for me.

My father had a Beetle '75 model, and while it was a tough car, I remember it being less forgiving in accidents. I prefer something with more crash protection now.

That sounds like a significant concern, bradley78. I own a 2012 Beetle and I feel the safety features have improved a lot over the years. Still, I think every driver should consider their own comfort with safety.

I got into a minor fender-bender in my '18 Beetle last year, and it performed well. The crumple zones really seemed effective! Just make sure you keep up with the maintenance.

I once hit a pothole that almost swallowed my Beetle! It bounced back fine, but I was worried about suspension issues. It turned out okay though!

Weather-wise, I’ve traveled through heavy rain and fog in my Beetle and felt fine. Just keep those tires in great shape!

I hear you, alyssa49! My Beetle has been my little trooper in stressful weather too! Kudos to good tire maintenance.

I’ve heard people say the Beetle isn’t safe, but honestly, I’ve never felt threatened in mine. Maybe it’s about how you drive?

Totally agree, davisdonna! The driver plays a huge role in safety. Also, I love how quirky the Beetle is! Perfect blend of fun and safety.

I’m just curious, what safety ratings do other users have for their models? I’ve only checked mine superficially.

I’ve heard differing opinions on those ratings. The newer models should have better safety features due to advances in technology, but I’m still cautious. Safety can be subjective.
