Looking for Tips on 944 LS Swap Kit Options

I’m currently considering an LS swap for my Porsche 944 and I’m on the hunt for a good swap kit.

Here are some thoughts and questions I have:

Recommendations Needed

  • Which LS swap kits have you guys had success with?
  • Are there specific components or parts I should be focusing on for the best results?

Installation Insights

  • What challenges did you face during the swap?
  • Any tips for making the installation process smoother?

Performance Expectations

  • What kind of performance gains did you see after the swap?
  • How did the handling of the car change with the added power?

Resources and Guides

  • If you have links to guides or resources that could help me through the process, I’d greatly appreciate it!

I’m excited about this project and I’m hoping to get some input from those who have been down this road. Thanks in advance for any help!

I’m also considering an LS swap for my 944! I believe you’d need engine mounts specifically designed for this swap. Have you looked into different brands?

Yes! I’ve heard good things about the Motor Mounts by Renegade Hybrids. Anyone have experience with those?

I found that sourcing a quality transmission adapter is critical for a smooth swap. The adapter must match the LS engine to the 944’s existing transmission. Have you considered that?

Good point! I haven’t decided on the transmission yet. Is there a recommended combo that works well with an LS?

If you’re looking for compatibility hints, make sure to check the wiring harness requirements for your specific LS engine variant. It can get tricky!

Exactly! I appreciate the heads up. I might reach out to some local shops to see if they have any harnesses in stock.

Make sure to verify that whatever mounts or adapters you get have been tested with your specific year model of 944. Compatibility is key!

Haha, I’m just here imagining my 944 turning into a beast with an LS engine. What a transformation that would be! But yes, check compatibility!

True! It’s like a puzzle; everything has to fit together perfectly.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to source quality parts. Sites like Summit Racing or Jegs usually have reliable options along with reviews.

I’ll be checking those out! Any tips on which LS variants are easiest to work with for the 944?

From what I’ve seen, the LS1 has fewer hurdles regarding fitment, while the LS3 packs a punch if you can make it work! What do you all think?

I’ve successfully installed an LS swap kit in my 944, and the wiring can be a real headache. Make sure to document your connections carefully. I used a color-coded harness which helped a ton!

That’s great advice! Any tips on cooling system integration? I’ve heard that can get tricky too.

Cooling is definitely a key issue! I went with a larger radiator and ran new lines. Don’t forget about the fans; proper airflow is crucial for keeping the engine cool.

That sounds like a solid plan. Did you have any issues with the fan placement?

Fan placement was tricky! I ended up using slim fans to save space. Just ensure they fit snugly without obstructing anything else in the engine bay.

I feel like the biggest hurdle was figuring out the exhaust fitment. The LS headers are a tighter squeeze, so be prepared to modify things a bit. Don’t skimp on the exhaust; it pays off!

Good point! I’ve heard some people just end up going custom. Did you go that route?
