Upgrading My C3 Corvette Exhaust System - Need Recommendations!

For installation tips, I recommend watching some YouTube videos. They really helped me visualize the process before I tackled it myself. Just keep an eye out for any rusted bolts—you may need some penetrating oil to loosen them up.

I had a challenge with alignment when installing mine. A friend suggested using a floor jack to support the new exhaust while fitting it, which made adjustments much easier. Anyone else had issues like that?

That’s a great tip! I struggled with alignment too, but I ended up using rubber hangers, which provided a bit of a ‘give’ and helped a lot during installation. Definitely worth trying if you’re having issues!

I’m still debating whether to do the install myself or take it to a shop. Any thoughts on what tools I absolutely need to have? I don’t want to start and then realize I’m missing something critical!

You’ll definitely need a good ratchet set, some sockets, and a torque wrench. Don’t forget safety glasses and gloves too! It’s easier if you have a buddy help you out as well.

I had the most fun with my install team! We made a day of it and blasted some classic rock while we worked. Just a heads up: Don’t rush the fitment; it’s better to take your time and do it right!

Now that’s the spirit! Nothing like music and friends to make an install enjoyable. Just be careful of rust if your car is from the 70s like mine; it can be a real pain!

Rust is the enemy! Speaking of challenges, I found mine took longer than expected. Also, I had to tweak the hangers quite a bit; they weren’t perfectly aligned out of the box.

That sounds frustrating! I had to do a lot of adjustments too. I ended up using some rubber spacers to help with that. Made a big difference and kept everything quiet.

I’ve been thinking of adding an X-pipe as well. They’ve been said to improve sound and performance. Has anyone made that upgrade alongside their new exhaust?

I recently upgraded my exhaust to a Borla system, and the difference is incredible! The sound is aggressive and it’s noticeable on the dyno. I gained about 15 hp just from this upgrade!

That’s awesome, Donald! I’m considering a Corsa system. Anyone have experience with Corsa on a C3?

I’ve had a Corsa on my C3 for a few years now and love it. The tone is deep and has a nice, aggressive rumble. It really enhances the driving experience after an upgrade!

That’s what I’m looking for! Has anyone noticed a difference in fuel economy with these systems?

With my new exhaust system, I’ve actually seen about a 2 mpg increase on the highway. It might seem small, but every bit counts, right?

Wow, that’s impressive! What type of driving do you usually do?

Mostly highway cruising, but I hit some back roads too. The exhaust makes the car feel alive! Just be warned, it can turn heads—loud is an understatement.

I love loud! Should I go for headers too? What kind of enhancements have people seen with headers?

Headers definitely make a sizeable difference! I got about 20 hp and the car runs cooler too. I’d highly recommend them in conjunction with your exhaust upgrade.

What kind of headers did you install? I’m still debating on the long tube vs. shorty headers.
