What Oil Type for a 2013 Chevy Equinox?

How often do you guys change the oil? I’ve heard every 5,000 to 7,500 miles is good, but what do you recommend?

Most recommend changing it every 5,000 miles for regular driving, but I go for synthetic oil and do it every 7,500. Keeps my engine happy!

Use an oil filter wrench to make removing the old filter much easier. It can be quite tricky without it! Also, make sure to pre-fill the new filter with oil before installation.

Such a lifesaver! A little pre-filling goes a long way in preventing dry starts!

Make sure to dispose of the old oil and filter properly to keep the environment clean. Most auto shops will recycle oil for you.

That’s so true! You can even check local municipalities for disposal events if you have a lot. Better safe than sorry!

Safety gear is essential too! Gloves and goggles can protect you from spills. Just remember, oil changes don’t have to be messy when done right.

Totally agree! I’ve experienced the horror of oil splashes. Trust me, wear that gear!

Can anyone suggest a good oil brand for my Equinox? I’ve heard a lot about mobil and castrol, but what do you guys prefer?

I’m a fan of Valvoline! It keeps the engine smooth and has great performance reviews too. Worth checking out!

Don’t forget to reset the oil change light after you’re done! It can be annoying seeing that reminder every time you start your car.

So true! I almost left mine like that for weeks. What a hassle!

Overall, it’s a rewarding task. There’s something satisfying about doing it yourself and knowing your car’s in good hands. Give it a try!

For the 2013 Chevy Equinox, I recommend using 5W-30 motor oil. It’s crucial for optimal engine performance. Regular oil changes every 5,000 miles or so will keep everything running smoothly!

Does that apply for both the 2.4L and the 3.6L engines? I’ve heard there might be some differences.

Yes, both engine types can use 5W-30. It’s a versatile oil and usually meets the requirements in the manual. Just keep an eye on the oil level between changes!

Thanks for clarifying! Any tips on how to check the oil level properly?

Absolutely! To check the oil level, make sure the car is on level ground, pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, insert it back in, then pull it out again to check the level against the markings.

Good tips! Additionally, it’s wise to check for any unusual smells or discoloration in the oil.

Checking for discoloration is a great point! Regular monitoring can prevent engine issues. Remember to change the filter every oil change too!
