What's the Best Year for the Hyundai Tucson?

I’m considering buying a used Hyundai Tucson and I want to make sure I choose a model year that’s known for its reliability and performance.

I’ve heard that certain years tend to have more issues than others, and some trims get higher praise from owners. Here are a few questions I’d like to explore:

What Model Years Should I Look For?

  • Which specific years of the Hyundai Tucson are known for their reliability?
  • Are there particular trims that stand out as the best options?

What Years Should I Avoid?

  • Are there any known issues or recalls with certain years that I should be aware of?
  • What problems have previous owners faced that might influence my decision?

General Performance Trends

  • How has the Hyundai Tucson performed overall over the years in terms of fuel economy, handling, and comfort?
  • Are there significant upgrades in technology or features from year to year?

Any insights or firsthand experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve owned a 2019 Hyundai Tucson for a couple of years now, and I must say, the reliability ratings have been impressive! No major issues so far.

What about the 2018 model? I’ve heard mixed reviews regarding its maintenance costs.

The 2018 Tucson does have some reported transmission issues, which can be costly. I’d suggest looking into that before making a decision.

Interesting! I’ve been eyeing the 2020 model instead, since it has better ratings overall.

Definitely worth considering! The 2020 Tucson was rated highly for reliability and has fewer maintenance complaints than earlier years.

Do you think the 2021 model holds up just as well? I’m looking for something newer.

The 2021 Tucson hasn’t seen major complaints either! However, remember that newer models often come at a premium in terms of price and insurance.

I’ve had a 2016 model, and it did okay, but I did deal with some silly electrical issues. Can’t say I’d recommend it for long-term ownership.

That’s good to know, Erin! It’s helpful to hear real experiences. What do you think about the 2017 Tucson? Was it better?

I think the 2017 model had a few improvements, but the ratings didn’t skyrocket. Serious maintenance issues were also reported, so it might be a toss-up.

Seems like there’s always some controversy around these models. :joy: Can’t we just have one great year?

I’ve owned the 2020 Tucson and love its balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The 2.4L engine offers good torque for city driving. Plus, the tech features are pretty advanced compared to earlier models.

I found the 2019 model has excellent safety ratings, especially with the standard suite of driver-assistance features. It’s worth considering if safety is a priority!

Anyone know how the engine options differ between the 2021 and 2022 models? I’m curious if the performance sees any major changes!

The 2022 Tucson introduced a hybrid option, which is fantastic for those looking to save on gas!

I have a 2018 Tucson, and while it’s not the latest, it’s still reliable. The performance metrics are decent for everyday use, but it lacks some of the newer tech features.

True! However, I think the 2021 model is the best year for a solid mix of features and performance without breaking the bank.

Is it just me, or do the Tucson’s interior features seem to improve year after year? I find the 2022’s redesign quite impressive!

You’re not wrong! The tech features alone make the 2022 a standout, especially with the larger touchscreen.
