2004 CR-V Gas Mileage - What Are Your Real World Experiences?

I’m considering buying a 2004 Honda CR-V, and I’m really interested in the gas mileage it offers. I’ve read some specs online, but I’m looking for real-world experiences from owners. How does it perform in city versus highway driving? Are there any tips for maximizing fuel efficiency?

Key Questions:

  • What MPG are you getting on average?
  • How does it compare to other vehicles you’ve owned?
  • Any specific driving habits that help improve mileage?

Additionally, if you have links to official fuel economy data or any articles that provide detailed comparisons with similar models, that would be great! I want to ensure I make an informed decision before finalizing my purchase. Thanks in advance for your insights!

I’ve had my 2004 CR-V for about 5 years now and I consistently get around 24 mpg. Mostly highway driving, which really helps. I do regular maintenance too, that might contribute!

That sounds great, Lisa! I’m at about 22 mpg, but that’s mostly city driving. Do you do anything special for maintenance?

I get around 26 mpg on the highway, but I often check my tire pressure. It really makes a difference! Consider keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure for better mileage.

Interesting, Kevin! I never thought about tire pressure playing such a role. I’ll have to keep an eye on that!

My 2004 CR-V usually gives me around 23 mpg. I think driving style matters a lot. Quick accelerations definitely hurt mileage.

Absolutely! I’ve changed my driving habits and noticed a better mpg. Slow and steady wins the race!

I usually see about 20 mpg around town, which seems frustrating sometimes. I guess I need to get out on the highway more often!

Don’t be too hard on yourself. City driving is just tough on gas mileage in general!

I got about 27 mpg once on a long trip, but generally it’s more like 22-24. I love the car, though!

That’s impressive! I’ll definitely take the CR-V on a trip and see how it performs.

Honestly, I wouldn’t expect much better than 21 mpg in the city with this model. It’s not bad, but not stellar either. Just my take!

I agree, Morgan. But I think a well-maintained CR-V can do better, especially on the highway.

My mileage dropped to around 19 after some neglect. Lesson learned: always keep up on maintenance!

That’s a tough lesson! It’s amazing how maintenance can impact fuel economy.

I think driving in the winter plays a big role in mpg too. Cold weather seems to kill the mileage.

So true! It can be hard to see good numbers when it’s cold out.

I heard that keeping the car loaded with stuff all the time can hurt gas mileage. Anyone else experience that?

I’ve owned a 2004 CR-V for about 5 years now. I usually see about 24 MPG in mixed driving, which is pretty good for an SUV. Compared to other models like the RAV4, I’d say the CR-V holds its own!

I had a RAV4 from the same year, and it averaged around 22 MPG. I’d agree, the CR-V seems more efficient overall, especially in city driving!
