Anyone dealt with 'Ignition Switched On' issue in BMW?

I’ve been having some trouble with my BMW lately, and I’m hoping someone here can help figure it out. Recently, I’ve noticed that my car almost seems to be stuck in the ‘Ignition Switched On’ mode even when I turn off the key.

Symptoms I’ve Noticed:

  • The dashboard lights stay on even after I turn off the ignition.
  • Sometimes the starter doesn’t engage properly when I try to start it.
  • A warning message pops up about the ignition.

Things I’ve Tried:

  • Checked the battery connections to make sure they’re secure.
  • Insider the fuses related to the ignition system, and they seem fine.
  • Looked for any obvious signs of wear or damage around the ignition switch.

I’m wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues or knows what steps I should take next? Is this something to do with the ignition switch itself, or could there be an issue deeper in the electrical system? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been dealing with the ‘Ignition Switched On’ issue for months! My BMW won’t start, and sometimes I hear a clicking noise. Anyone know what this could be?

This is a common problem! It could be a bad ignition switch or even a battery issue. Have you tried checking the battery connections?

I had the same problem with my M3! It turned out to be just a loose wire. Sometimes it’s a simple fix; just check the wiring first.

Great tip! I always forget to check the simple stuff first. I’ll take a look this weekend and let you all know how it goes.

When my ignition switch acted up, it was stuck in the ‘On’ position. I ended up replacing the switch entirely. Make sure to diagnose it properly!

That’s a bummer! How difficult was it to replace the ignition switch? I’m not super handy with car repairs.

Honestly, it took me a few hours, but I’m pretty clueless when it comes to cars. Just follow a tutorial, and you’ll be fine! Just be cautious with the wiring.

I’ve read that the ignition switch issue can lead to other problems too, like erratic electrical behavior. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes! My dashboard lights kept flickering before the switch failed completely. It’s a signal to act fast!

Don’t forget about the key fob, too! Sometimes the issue isn’t the ignition switch but the key itself. Have you tried using a spare key?

Haha! I never thought about that! That would be just my luck to replace the whole switch when it’s just the key! I’ll check my spare.

At the end of the day, troubleshooting these ignition issues requires patience. It’s a journey, not a race! Has anyone had success after trying multiple fixes?

I’ve been dealing with the ‘Ignition Switched On’ issue for a while. Upgrading or replacing the ignition switch can be tricky. You’ll need a basic toolset including screwdrivers and a socket set. Be sure to check compatibility for your specific BMW model before purchasing any parts.

Thanks for the tips, jackie38! I’m also curious about costs. How much should I expect to pay for a decent replacement switch?

Typically, you’re looking at around $50 to $150 for a replacement ignition switch, depending on your BMW model and if you go OEM or aftermarket. Installation shouldn’t be too complex if you follow the right guides.

Good to know! Would aftermarket parts affect my warranty though? That’s something I’d like to avoid.

That’s solid advice! Are there any common signs that indicate the ignition switch needs replacement?

Definitely! If your dashboard lights flicker on and off, or the engine doesn’t start intermittently, it’s time to consider changing the ignition switch. These symptoms usually hint at a failing switch.

Oh man! My dashboard lights have been acting weird. Is the replacement process something I can DIY?
