I’ve had my share of leaks too! Has anyone used those ‘quick-fix’ sealers? Are they worth it or just a scam?
I tried one of those once, and it worked for like a week. Save your money!
I guess we can all agree that valve cover sealer can be tricky. What do you think causes leaks in the first place? Aging gaskets or installation errors?
It’s likely both! But, hey, at least I made a funny mess when I tried sealant for the first time!
I’ve used silicone-based sealers before, and they work great for high temperatures. However, they can be messy to apply. What about rubber sealers? Anyone had luck with those?
I’ve tried rubber sealers in the past, and I found that they tend to wear out faster than silicone options. They can be easier to apply though!
I have always been a fan of Permatex sealants. They seem to hold up well and are very user-friendly. Plus, they come in different varieties for various applications!
True! I’ve only used it for minor leaks, but it’s been solid so far. Just be sure to follow the drying times recommended.
I’m curious, how do silicone and Permatex compare on flexibility? I often worry about them becoming brittle over time.
Great point, @kathryn69! I’ve noticed that silicone maintains flexibility better than some Permatex options. I think it depends on the specific product, though.
Silicone definitely outlasts rubber, but don’t get me started on those cheap brands—they’re a total waste! Anyone else agree?
I completely agree! I once bought a cheap silicone sealer, and it failed within a few weeks. It taught me to stick with trusted brands.
That’s hilarious, @pblack! I think I’ve had the same experience. It’s like they were made of marshmallow! Any recommendations on good brands?
I usually go for RTV silicone sealants. They seem to be durable, and I’ve never had leaks when I use them properly. Just take your time with the application!
Exactly! Patience is key, or you might end up with a messy job that needs a redo. Learned that the hard way!
