Dodge Ram Won't Move in Any Gear - Need Help!

I’ve got a Dodge Ram that won’t budge, no matter what gear I’m in. I’ve checked the basics like the transmission fluid level, and it seems fine. Here are some things I’ve noticed:

  • The engine runs smoothly, but as soon as I shift into gear, there’s no response.
  • There are no unusual noises when shifting.
  • The dashboard doesn’t show any warning lights.

I know this could be a transmission issue or something with the linkage, but I’m not sure where to start. Can anyone share their experiences or insights on what might be causing this? Any troubleshooting tips or potential fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve seen Dodge Rams with similar issues due to low transmission fluid levels. Check your dipstick first; that’s an easy fix if that’s the problem!

Another common issue could be a faulty transmission solenoid. It can prevent the transmission from engaging properly.

Don’t forget about the torque converter! If it’s malfunctioning, it can result in no power transfer even if the engine runs fine.

Very true! You might also check for any error codes using an OBD-II scanner; it can help pinpoint the issue more accurately.

It could also be a simple case of a failed transmission cable. If it’s disconnected or broken, you’ll get no gear engagement at all.

Good point! Have you checked for any fluid leaks under the vehicle? That can provide important clues too.

This is such a frustrating issue! I remember when my Ram wouldn’t move at all; turned out to be a blown fuse affecting the transmission control module.

That’s a good thing to check! The TCM can be very sensitive. Have you experienced any warning lights recently?

I’ve noticed some people have different opinions on this issue. Could be just neglecting maintenance, or could be a big underlying problem. What do you all think?

True, but regular maintenance is key. Neglect can lead to major transmission problems, no doubt.

If everything else fails, it might be time to take it to a mechanic. They can do a full diagnostic that could save you a lot of trouble.

I agree! But first, let’s not forget to give it a good old-fashioned kick! Sometimes, that does wonders.

Or a slap on the dashboard! Just make sure you don’t break anything else. But yeah, checking all those small things first is really important.

Haha, right? It’s always worth a shot. Good luck though; I hope you figure it out without too much hassle!

Have you checked your transmission fluid levels? Low or burnt fluid can really affect how your Dodge Ram shifts. It’s super important to keep it topped up and fresh for optimal performance.

That’s a great point! Also, when you check the fluid, look for any signs of contamination, like a burnt smell or discoloration. If it’s dark or smells strange, it’s time for a change.

Definitely check that fluid! When was the last time you changed it? Manufacturer guidelines usually suggest changing it every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on your driving conditions.

I completely agree! I’ve had similar issues before, and catching it early can save a lot of headaches. Make sure you use the right type of transmission fluid as well.

I can’t stress enough how crucial it is to use quality transmission fluid. Cheap fluids can lead to premature wear of components. Just make sure you’re using the OEM recommended type.
