Looking for the Best Rock Sliders for My 5th Gen 4Runner

I’m currently considering adding rock sliders to my 5th generation Toyota 4Runner, and I could really use some advice! I’m particularly focused on finding options that provide solid protection without compromising too much on weight. Here are a few things I’m looking for:

  • Durability: I plan to hit some rough trails, so I need something that can withstand tough conditions.
  • Fitment: Any recommendations on brands that fit well with the 5th gen model?
  • Installation: Would love to hear about any sliders that are easier to install, as I want to do it myself if possible.
  • Pricing: What’s a reasonable price range for a good set of rock sliders?

I’ve done some reading online but would appreciate any firsthand experiences or tips. Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking to install rock sliders on my 5th gen 4Runner too! I’ve heard the Adventure Offroad sliders are pretty durable. Any tips?

Definitely recommend gathering tools like a socket set, torque wrench, and a drill. Make sure to have a friend assist during installation; it can be tricky alone!

I installed mine last month! Key tip: don’t skip the primer on the frame; it helps with corrosion resistance! And yes, having a buddy is a must!

Absolutely! It makes handling the weight and positioning way easier. Plus, two sets of eyes can spot any issues.

Can anyone share specific challenges they faced during install? I read alignment can be tricky.

Alignment is tricky! Make sure to loosen all bolts before tightening any. It really helps during the final alignment.

A common advice is to test-fit the sliders before starting the actual installation to avoid any surprises down the line!

I just ordered mine, and I’m really excited! Is there a specific order to install the bolts? I heard it might matter.

Yes! Start from the front and work your way back. Always reference your slider’s instructions too for bolt order.

Remember, take your time! Rushing the process will just lead to mistakes. Think of it as a practice exercise!

So, I’ve seen some people with sliders that also act as steps; are those worth it? Can they handle off-road?

The step feature is cool but can be less robust for serious off-roading. Pick what suits your 4Runner’s uses best!

Installation day is going to be a blast! We should all join forces and have a 4Runner installation party!

I’m also looking into rock sliders for my 5th Gen 4Runner! I’ve heard steel is better for durability, but aluminum is lighter. What do you all think?

I’ve noticed many prefer steel for off-roading, especially around rocks. It can take a beating without bending.

Great point, Tammy! But I wonder if the weight of steel adds to gas costs. Anyone notice a difference?

It’s a valid concern, but for serious off-roading, the stability is often worth it. Competitors in the terrain often use heavier sliders.

What about designs? Bolt-on seems easier to install, but weld-on might be sturdier. Anyone have experience?

I totally agree! Weld-on certainly offers a more permanent installation, but if you’re like me and might switch them out, bolt-on is the way to go.
