Need Help with NC MX5 Battery Tray Hold Down Bolt!

I tried to replace my battery tray hold down the other week, and it turned into a comedy of errors! Do you think my neighbors are still laughing?

Sounds like a sitcom moment! Just be careful not to round off the heads on those bolts; it’s a nightmare to extract!

That’s true! A rounded bolt head can ruin your day. Just use the right tools, and you’ll save yourself a lot of headache.

To replace the battery tray hold down bolt on an NC MX5, you’ll need a 10mm socket, a ratchet, and some extensions. Make sure to disconnect the battery first for safety.

Thanks for the tip! Is it necessary to use any kind of thread locking compound on the bolt?

I usually don’t use thread locker, but it’s not a bad idea if you’re concerned about vibrations. Just ensure not to over-tighten it!

Good thought! Additionally, make sure to inspect the battery tray for any signs of corrosion or damage while you’re at it.

I’m actually planning to do this soon! Is it difficult to access the bolt from underneath the car, or can it be done from the top?

You can do it from the top, but it’s much easier if you can lift the car a little. The bolt is located right there, but space can be tight.

Make sure you have a good flashlight! It helps a lot to see what you are doing. Also, constant patience is key; don’t rush.

Absolutely, good lighting makes such a difference! And remember, keep your tools organized; nothing worse than hunting down a missing socket mid-job.

Absolutely! But if you lose a socket, just remember to check under the car—I’ve found more tools under there than I’d like to admit, haha!
