What’s the Best Year for a Scion xB?

I’m considering getting a Scion xB and I’m curious about which model years are the best. I’ve read a bit about some years being more reliable than others, and I want to hear from others who have experience with these cars.

Here’s what I’m interested in:

  • Reliability: Which years have the best track record?
  • Mileage: What kind of mileage should I expect from different years?
  • Trim Details: Are there specific trims that stand out in terms of performance and features?
  • Value: What are the price ranges for different years in the used market?
  • Common Issues: Are there model years I should avoid due to frequent problems?

I would love to hear your experiences and any advice you can share. Thanks!

I’ve owned a 2012 xB for the last five years and it’s been fantastic! The 2.4L engine has good power and fuel efficiency. I definitely recommend it!

I hear the 2011 model is also reliable. What do you think about its handling compared to the 2012?

The 2008 xB is quite different from 2011 and onward, with the earlier models having a more quirky design. Performance-wise, it’s decent but not as refined.

That’s true! I think the aesthetics can sway many buyers, especially for the earlier models.

I’ve had no major mechanical issues with my 2013 xB, but I’ve heard some owners mention transmission problems in earlier models. Fuel efficiency has also noticeably improved post-2010.

That’s good to hear! Reliability is key. What’s your experience with the resale value?

Honestly, I think the 2004-2006 models have a classic charm, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about their engine longevity. Still, they hold a fanbase!

Haha, the 2004 edition truly stands out! It’s like the retro hipster of cars! But on a serious note, performance does decline over the years.

That’s a great way to describe it! Still, are those issues enough to steer buyers away?

I think it really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want style, go for the early models. For performance and reliability, stick with 2012 and up.

I’ve owned a 2010 Scion xB and the interior design is quite spacious for a compact car. The cargo space is excellent, and the boxy shape allows for more headroom, making it comfy for longer drives!

I totally agree! The 2012 model has a great blend of technology too, with the upgraded audio system and navigation option. It feels modern while keeping that classic xB vibe.

I’ve driven the 2014 model, and the interior features are more refined. The seating feels premium and the ergonomic design is a plus. However, I miss the older model’s more utilitarian feel.

That’s interesting! I thought the 2014’s tech upgrades would appeal to a lot of buyers. How’s the comfort on long trips?

The 2014 is pretty comfortable on long trips! However, I personally think the 2008 version had the best balance of space and practicality overall. The seats were just the right amount of firm.

The 2008 does have a lot going for it! But did anyone else find the cup holders in the older models a bit lacking? I mean, come on, how do you even fit a large drink?

Haha, I know right? It’s like they designed it for a soda can! But seriously, I think the 2011 model is a good compromise with better cup holder placement. Plus, it has a decent sound system!

I have a 2013 xB and while the tech is pretty solid, I find the backup camera a bit glitchy at times. However, the seats are so comfortable, it’s a trade-off I’m willing to make!

That’s frustrating! Have you tried resetting the system? The overall space in 2013 is really good though, right? It’s still one of my favorites.
