What's the Best Sounding Exhaust for a Mustang GT?

Exploring the Sound of Mustang GT

Hey everyone,

I’ve been diving deep into the sounds that different Mustang GT models make, and I have to say, the auditory experience these cars provide is just incredible! Whether it’s the roar of a stock exhaust or the deep growl of a modified system, there’s something special about the sound of a Mustang on the road.

Stock vs Modified Sounds

One thing I’ve noticed is how much the sound can change with a few modifications.

  • Straight-Piping: This modification tends to unleash a more aggressive sound. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart!
  • Cat-Back Exhaust Systems: These can enhance the stock sound while making it more refined. Brands like Borla and Flowmaster consistently come up in conversations.
  • X-Pipes vs H-Pipes: I’ve seen debates on which one sounds better. X-pipes are usually more aggressive, while H-pipes provide a more classic muscle car sound.

Share Your Experience!

I’d love to hear your experiences and preferences.

  • What exhaust setups have you tried?
  • Are there any exhaust sound clips that you think really capture the essence of a Mustang GT?
  • Do you prefer the sound of a naturally aspirated engine or are you all about that supercharged growl?

Let’s get the discussion going and maybe compile a list of the best exhaust sounds out there! Looking forward to your thoughts and maybe sharing some links to awesome videos too.

Happy revving! :racehorse:

The Mustang GT’s exhaust note is unique because of its deep rumble and aggressive growl. The 5.0L V8 engine just has that signature sound that grabs attention, especially with the right aftermarket exhaust system.

I completely agree! It’s such a visceral experience. I had a Flowmaster on mine and it sounded like a beast!

While Flowmasters are great, I think Borla has a more refined tone. The attacks in sound when you open it up are exhilarating, plus there’s no drone on the highway!

I’ve heard Borla is a great choice! But how does it compare to Corsa? I’ve read their systems are more aggressive.

Corsa does have that really aggressive edge! Their exhaust systems tend to resonate more at higher RPMs, which adds to the sporty feel. It’s more about personal preference in sound.

Exactly! That’s what I love. But, in terms of loudness, how does it stack up against the stock exhaust?

Compared to stock, all the aftermarket systems blow it out of the water! The stock sound is quite bland. Aftermarket options really enhance that iconic V8 growl, making it much more exciting.

Absolutely! And for cruising, nothing beats the sound of a Mustang. It just feels right with the wind in your hair, doesn’t it?

Definitely! Although, let’s be honest, sometimes it sounds a bit like a lion roaring mixed with a chainsaw - but in a good way! Just makes you smile every time you hit the throttle.

Haha, so true! The sound is part of the charm of owning a Mustang. It’s like having a pet that’s also a powerhouse!

I’ve been running a Borla Attack exhaust on my Mustang GT and the sound is absolutely thunderous! It’s definitely one of the best-sounding systems out there.

Have you considered pairing it with long tube headers? That could elevate the sound even more!

For me, the Roush Cat-Back Exhaust gives my Mustang that aggressive growl. It’s very noticeable and brings smiles!

I agree, Roush really knows how to accentuate that V8 melody! How’s the drone on the highway?

Drone can be annoying, but a resonator delete can help with that! Just make sure you want louder all the time.

I’ve heard mixed opinions about that. Some love it, others find it unbearable. What’s your take?

The best part is that you can customize the sound! I’m running a Flowmaster and have been very happy with my choice. It has that classic Mustang roar.

True, but isn’t the point of a Mustang more about the raw power than the sound? Just a thought!

You’re right! There’s a balance between performance and sound. At the end of the day, we love these cars for the whole package! Enough said. LOL.
