What's the Real MPG for a 2019 Ford Ranger?

I’m considering buying a 2019 Ford Ranger and I’m really curious about its fuel efficiency. I’ve seen the official EPA ratings, but I’m more interested in real-world experiences. What kind of MPG are you guys getting?

Some specific questions I have:

  • City vs. Highway MPG: How do they compare for you?
  • Driving Conditions: What terrain or conditions are you mainly driving in?
  • Towing/Hauling Impact: If you tow or haul anything, how does that affect your mileage?
  • Driving Style: Does your driving style (aggressive vs. conservative) significantly change your MPG?

Any info would be super helpful as I’m weighing my options against other trucks. Thanks in advance!

I’ve owned a 2019 Ford Ranger for a year now, and I typically see around 23 MPG in mixed driving. It’s decent, but when compared to the Chevy Colorado or Toyota Tacoma, it falls in the middle range.

That’s good to know, Kenneth! I’ve been curious about how it stacks against the hybrid options, like the Ford Maverick. Anyone tried that one?

The Ranger’s MPG is pretty respectable for its class, but the Maverick hybrid really shines, offering close to 40 MPG in the city. That’s a significant difference for similar-sized trucks!

Wow, 40 MPG sounds impressive! I wonder how the Ranger handles towing compared to those hybrids, though. Anyone have insights?

When it comes to towing, the Ranger does hold its ground. It offers a maximum towing capacity of around 7,500 lbs, which is better than the Maverick but less than the Tacoma. Fuel efficiency is always a trade-off!

It’s frustrating how some brands prioritize towing while others focus on city MPG. Maybe one day they’ll balance both better!

I think the Ranger’s fuel efficiency is solid for a midsize truck, especially considering its performance. But, I do wonder why they didn’t offer a hybrid option for the Ranger itself in 2019.

You’d think Ford would be all in on hybrids! But I guess they felt the Ranger’s specs already catered to a specific customer base. Perhaps they’re planning something for future models.

That would definitely make sense. It’s like they want to keep the Ranger a true truck rather than a ‘mildly trucky car’.

Exactly! And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love rolling coal? Just kidding! It would be cool if they’d evolve it to include eco-friendly options without sacrificing performance.

For sure! That said, for everyday cruising and light hauling, the Ranger’s MPG isn’t too shabby compared to my old full-size truck, which was a gas guzzler!

I’ve had my 2019 Ford Ranger for a year now, and my MPG varies quite a bit. In town, I usually see around 18-20 MPG, but on the highway, it goes up to 24-26 MPG. It really depends on how I drive.

I’ve found that aggressive acceleration definitely hurts MPG. Smooth driving and keeping a steady speed help a lot! What driving styles have you all experimented with?

I totally agree, @jjohnson! I tend to drive with a light foot, and I’ve had my Ranger reach 29 MPG on long highway trips, which is better than I expected!

I’ve had a different experience! My cousin drives his Ranger like a race car, and he barely cracks 20 MPG. Maybe we need to change his driving habits more than anything else!

Does anyone have tips for optimizing MPG while towing? I recently had to haul a trailer and noticed a significant drop in fuel efficiency. Any advice?

I’ve experienced that too, @samuel46. When towing, I try to keep the speed down and use cruise control. That really helps stabilize the consumption!

Another big factor is tire pressure! Keeping the tires inflated properly has really helped me maintain better MPG especially under different loads.

Absolutely, @molly56! I also think it’s important not to overload the truck. I try to pack light when I can to help with MPG.
