I’ve been having some issues with my car lately, and I’m hoping some of you can help me troubleshoot. It seems like my engine is running rich, which I’ve read means there’s more fuel than air in the combustion process.
Here are some details:
Symptoms: I’ve noticed a decrease in fuel efficiency and a strong smell of gasoline, especially when I’m idling. The engine also feels sluggish at times.
Recent Changes: I recently changed the fuel filter and spark plugs, but the issue persists. I haven’t modified anything else in the car or made any drastic repairs.
Possible Causes: From what I’ve found online, it could be a bad oxygen sensor, a malfunctioning fuel injector, or a clogged air filter.
Has anyone experienced this before? What steps should I take to diagnose and fix the issue? I’m open to any advice or experiences you might have! Thanks in advance!
If your car is running rich, a faulty oxygen sensor could be the culprit. It may be reading incorrect data and causing the engine to inject too much fuel.
Keep an eye on your engine control unit (ECU) as well. It manages air-fuel ratios, and if it’s not functioning properly, it can cause a rich condition.
That’s a good call! Also, what about your coolant temperature sensor? If it’s faulty, it may confuse the ECU into thinking the engine is colder than it is.
If your car is running rich, you might notice poor fuel economy - I used to get about 25 mpg and now I’m barely hitting 15! Definitely worth looking into.
I once had a strong gas smell in my garage when I parked my car. Turns out my fuel injectors were leaking! Always a good idea to investigate those smells.
