Anyone tried the 3rd row seat in the Toyota 4Runner?

I’m considering getting a Toyota 4Runner, but I’m really curious about the practicality of the 3rd row seat option.

What I’m Looking For:

  • Availability: Is it available on all trims or just specific ones?
  • Functionality: How usable is the 3rd row for adults or kids? Does it feel cramped?
  • User Experiences: Would love to hear from anyone who has actually used it. What are the pros and cons?
  • Comparisons: How does the 3rd row in the 4Runner compare to other SUVs?

Additional Thoughts:

I’ve seen some videos online but they mostly provide just a quick overview. I would appreciate any insights on comfort, storage options with the 3rd row up or down, and how it affects driving dynamics.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve tried the 3rd row in my 4Runner, and I have to say it’s pretty snug for adults. Legroom is limited, especially for taller passengers. If you’re planning long trips, you might want to reconsider. It’s fine for kids though!

I completely agree! My friends who sat back there on a road trip complained about the lack of headroom. It’s more suited for short distances!

I actually found the 3rd row not bad for short trips! My kids loved it, and they had enough space to be comfortable. I wouldn’t want to be back there for hours, though.

The 3rd row is really best for kids or smaller adults. I wouldn’t say it’s designed for comfort; it’s more of a situational seat. Definitely not for long journeys unless you enjoy cramped spaces!

Anyone else feel that way? I’ve also heard from some friends that the 4Runner’s 3rd row can be a bit of a wrestling match to get into if you’re not flexible.

Exactly! My tall friend had a really tough time getting back there. If you have a family with kids, it’s fine, but don’t expect adults to be comfy.

I just use the 3rd row occasionally for guests, so maybe it’s enough. I’m 6’1", and sitting back there feels like I’m curled up in a ball. Definitely feels more like a ‘just in case’ seat!

Funny how everyone’s experiences vary! I find it perfectly fine for my needs. Maybe if you set expectations, it could be a bit of a party back there—just don’t expect first-class!

Haha, that’s an accurate description! I had to laugh at that. While it’s not spacious, it has its uses, right?

I’m curious—has anyone tried adjusting the front seats a certain way to make it more comfortable for the back row? Would that even help?

I doubt it! It’s all about the design of the 4Runner. Just think of it as a fun ‘adventure’ seat. Just don’t pack for long trips in it!

I’ve had the 3rd row in my 4Runner for about a year now. The installation was pretty straightforward, but I recommend checking the manual for the exact steps. It’s essential to ensure the latches are secure when you set it up.

I completely agree! The folding mechanism is also quite intuitive once you get the hang of it. Just make sure you’re pulling the right lever to fold it down; I’ve seen folks struggle with that!

Anyone else find it a little tricky? I had to watch a video tutorial to figure out how to fold the seats correctly. It’s not that bad once you do it a couple of times!

Yes, frank88! I was in the same boat. The video really helped me understand how the seats fold down. Just be sure to align everything properly to avoid any damage while folding.

I love my 4Runner, but sometimes I feel like those rear seats could be a little more user-friendly. Does anyone know if there’s a trick to making them fold more easily?

I found that pressing down firmly on the seat while pulling the release lever helps a lot! It seems like a simple thing, but it really does make a difference.

Great advice, tammy39! Also, don’t forget to check if there are any obstructions in the way. Sometimes the seatbelts can get tangled, making it harder to fold the seats!

I’ve only used the 3rd row a couple of times and really just for kids. I find the installation to be quite straightforward, but I haven’t attempted removal yet. Is it complicated?
