Best Cam for 6.0 LS? Looking for Recommendations!

I’m diving into some performance upgrades on my 6.0-liter LS engine, and I’m particularly interested in camshaft options to enhance power and sound. I’ve seen a ton of discussions about various cams, but I’m looking for some concrete recommendations from anyone who has experience with this setup.

Here are a few things I’m considering:

  • Intended Use: Is this for street driving, track days, or off-roading?
  • Sound Preference: Do you have a specific tone or character you prefer?
  • Lift/Durations: What specs have worked for you, especially with daily drivability in mind?

Points I’d love to hear about:

  • Recommendations on specific cam brands/models that deliver great performance without sacrificing reliability.
  • Any pitfalls or issues you’ve encountered with certain setups.
  • How the cam choice has affected your overall driving experience.

I’m eager to get some insights and maybe learn from some trial and error from others. Thanks in advance for any help!

It really depends on what you want to achieve with your 6.0 LS. Are you aiming for street performance, drag racing, or something else? Narrowing down your goals will help in choosing the right cam.

Great point! I’d like a balance between daily driving and some fun on the weekends, maybe some drag racing!

If you’re looking for a cam that handles both street and track well, consider the Texas Speed TSP Stage 2 cam. It’s designed for versatility!

Nice suggestion! I’ve heard good things about Texas Speed’s cams. How is the drivability with that stage?

The Stage 2 is quite user-friendly for daily driving. You’ll have a good power band without sacrificing too much comfort!

I’m leaning towards something more aggressive for drag racing, what do you think about the Brian Tooley Racing Stage 3 cam?

The BTR Stage 3 is great for power, but be ready for more engine noise. It’s not the best for street driving.

If you need a cam that performs well off-road, think about the Comp Cams XFI series. They provide good torque and response. What’s your off-road setup like?

I’ve got a lift kit and bigger tires for off-roading! Just want to make sure I’m not losing too much power with a cam change.

In that case, the XFI might be perfect for you. It’s designed for more low-end torque, which is useful in off-road situations.

I’m just here trying to figure out why everyone is so serious about cams. Can’t we all just enjoy a 6.0 LS with whatever we choose? :joy:

Haha, true! Just remember, happiness is a well-tuned engine. But also… choose wisely!

Just make sure whatever cam you choose fits your vehicle setup. Incompatibility can lead to poor performance and tuning headaches!

I appreciate everyone’s input! I’m realizing that knowing my goals upfront is key to this cam decision. Any other tips?

[quote=“robert30, post:14, topic:2398”]I appreciate everyone’s input!..[ /quote]Consider researching your options in detail and see what aligns with your budget. Each cam has its unique trade-offs.

In the end, it’s about what makes you happy with your build. Your engine, your rules! Happy modding!

For a 6.0 LS, the Texas Speed stage 2 cam is a popular choice. It works well with stock heads and doesn’t require a lot of additional modifications. Make sure to pair it with a good intake and exhaust system for the best gains!

I’ve heard great things about the Vengeance Racing cam too. Anyone tried it with a stock intake and exhaust setup?

A solid cam choice is crucial. Don’t forget to factor in tuning! A cam like the BTR stage 3 can really wake up your 6.0, but needs custom tuning for the best performance.
