Need Help with C5 Corvette Tail Lights - Options & Upgrades?

I’ve been looking into upgrading the tail lights on my C5 Corvette and I’m overwhelmed by the options available. I’m curious about different aftermarket choices and what would best enhance the look of my car while also being functional. Here are some questions I have:

  • What are the best aftermarket tail lights available for the C5? I’ve seen some LED options that look great, but are there any specific brands or models that you recommend?
  • Installation Tips: If anyone has experience installing their own tail lights, I would love to hear any tips or tricks to make the process easier.
  • Legal Specs: Are there any specifications or regulations I need to keep in mind when replacing the tail lights? I don’t want to run into any issues down the road.

Any advice or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I’m also looking at tail light options for my C5. Have considered LED conversions for better visibility. Anyone have brands they recommend?

I’ve been using the Spec-D LED tail lights and they look amazing! Easy installation too. Visibility is 10/10.

Spec-D is a good choice! I’ve heard Morimoto also makes quality lights. Has anyone tried those?

I just installed Morimoto lights; they are fantastic! The brightness is something else. You can’t go wrong with them.

I agree with Sara! Aftermarket LEDs not only enhance visibility but also give the car a modern look. How tricky is the installation on those?

Installation was pretty straightforward. Just take your time with the wiring, and you’ll be fine. A buddy helped me out.

Thanks for the advice! Is there a considerable price difference between the various options mentioned?

Yes, you’ll find that Spec-D lights are usually cheaper than Morimoto. But in this case, you get what you pay for. Morimoto is definitely the premium option.

I looked into both, but was shocked by some reviews for certain brands. Which has the best longevity and warranty?

Morimoto typically offers better warranties. I’ve had mine for a year with zero issues, and the lights still look brand new!

What about aesthetics? I want something that stands out but is still true to the C5’s classic lines. Any options?

Consider smoked lenses or custom designs. They can enhance the look without being overly flashy.

I don’t think anything beats the classic OEM style. But then again, who doesn’t love a little upgrade? It’s all about balance!

And hey, if they’re LED, you might as well show off that light show at night! Just don’t blind the drivers behind you!

I had issues with my C5 Corvette tail lights and found that corrosion on connectors was a common problem. Cleaning them with electrical contact cleaner helped a lot!

That’s great advice! I also recommend checking the ground connections. A poor ground can cause erratic tail light behavior.

Another thing to watch for is the tail light circuit board. They can develop cracks over time which lead to faulty connections. If it looks damaged, consider replacing it.

I had a similar issue, and replacing the circuit board solved my tail light problems almost immediately!

Make sure you’re using the correct bulb types. Overheating bulbs can also cause problems, and using the wrong one will lead to more issues down the line.
