Need Help with My Porsche 996 Rear Spoiler Issues

I’ve been having some trouble with the rear spoiler on my Porsche 996 and could really use some advice.

Here’s what’s going on:

  • The spoiler seems to be stuck in the down position, and I can’t figure out if it’s a mechanical issue or if there’s a problem with the controls.
  • I’ve checked the fuse, and it seems okay, but the spoiler just won’t budge.
  • I’m also considering an aftermarket modification for the spoiler. Does anyone have recommendations or experience with this?

Specific Questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced a similar malfunction with the rear spoiler? What was the fix?
  2. If I decide to go aftermarket, what brand or type would you suggest?
  3. Are there any tips for maintaining the hydraulic system associated with the spoiler?

Any help or detailed advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey! Installing a rear spoiler on your Porsche 996 can be a fun project. You’ll need some basic tools: a screwdriver set, torque wrench, and possibly a heat gun. Make sure to check for any alignment issues before securing it down!

Great tips! I found that having a helper can make it easier, especially when positioning the spoiler. What about adhesive? Did you use anything special?

I recommend using double-sided tape along with the screws for added support. Also, clean the mounting area thoroughly before installation. It makes a big difference in how well it sticks!

Absolutely! I’ve had issues in the past where dirt caused the spoiler to lift. It’s a pain to reinstall later. What challenges did you all face during installation?

One common issue is getting everything aligned perfectly. I had to make several adjustments before I was satisfied. Patience is key here!

Right on! I found marking the drill holes carefully helped me a lot. Once I marked them, it was smooth sailing. Any other tips?

Make sure you test fit everything first before drilling. It’s saved me from a lot of headaches! And don’t forget to watch some install videos online—they’re super helpful.

For sure! And online communities can be a gold mine for finding specific tips for the 996. Speaking of which, is it really necessary to use a torque wrench?

Using a torque wrench ensures you don’t overtighten and strip the screws. It’s worth it for peace of mind. You don’t want your spoiler flying off on the highway!

That’s true! Although, if it flew off, you might be able to sell it as ‘lightweight tuning’! Just kidding! Seriously, does anyone have aesthetic suggestions for painting it?

A good paint job can make all the difference. I suggest using a high-quality automotive paint for durability. Also, a clear coat will protect it from UV damage.

Great advice! It’s important to factor in the finish too. What color did you all go with for your spoilers? I’m contemplating a matte black.

Matte black would look amazing! I went with a classic gloss black for mine. It really stands out. Just remember to wear gloves while painting to avoid fingerprints.

I had a factory rear spoiler on my 996, and it really improved high-speed stability. The car felt much more planted during cornering. Definitely worth the investment!

That’s interesting! Have you noticed any difference in braking performance with the factory spoiler? I’ve been considering an upgrade.

I recently switched to a GT2-style spoiler, and the difference is night and day! The downforce at high speeds is impressive, but it’s really a pain in everyday traffic. Lots of looks, though.

That sounds exhilarating! But how does it handle in the rain? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

With the GT2-style, I find that it gets a bit slippery when it rains. I’d recommend adding some better tires if you’re going that route. Safety first!

I’m currently using a ducktail spoiler, and it’s a great middle ground. Keeps the car looking sleek while enhancing aerodynamics without being too aggressive. Plus, it’s a classic look!
