Pilot Sport 4S vs Super Sport: Which Is the Better Tire?

Introduction

I’m currently in the market for new tires and I’ve narrowed it down to two popular models: the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and the Pilot Super Sport. Both tires have great reputations, but I’m trying to figure out which one would be a better fit for my driving style and performance needs.

Key Points of Comparison

Here are some aspects I’m particularly interested in:

  • Grip and Handling: How does each tire perform under aggressive driving conditions?
  • Comfort and Noise: Considering daily driving, which tire is quieter and offers a smoother ride?
  • Longevity: Are there significant differences in wear rates between these two?
  • Weather Performance: I occasionally drive in light rain; how do they both handle in wet conditions?

Additional Thoughts

If anyone has personal experiences, reviews, or any insights on these tires, I’d really appreciate the feedback. Also, if you have recommendations for alternatives that compare well, I’m open to suggestions! Looking forward to hearing from the community and making an informed decision.

I’ve driven on both tires, and in my experience, the Pilot Sport 4S has noticeably better grip in wet conditions. The responsiveness feels sharper too.

That’s interesting! I’ve only tried the Super Sport, which I found was great for dry handling but struggled a bit in the rain.

I would agree with you both! The Pilot Sport 4S does have that added edge in terms of overall flexibility and responsiveness, especially on curvy roads.

But how does wear compare? I’ve heard the Super Sport lasts longer. Is that true?

From what I’ve read, the Super Sport does tend to have a longer lifespan, but it sacrifices some grip. It’s really a trade-off depending on your driving style.

I always thought the differences were minimal. Are the Pilot Sport 4S really that much better, or am I just experiencing the hype?

The hype is real, jcraig! They just feel more planted on the road, especially during those tight turns. You should definitely give them a try!

That sounds promising! I should take a closer look before my next purchase.

There’s also something about the ride comfort with the 4S that just feels better. It’s a daily driver’s dream for sure!

For a tire that’s good in wet and dry, the Pilot Sport 4S has been my go-to, but could it cost me in longevity?

You’ll have fun with them, but the trade-off is definitely the wear! You might have to budget for early replacements if you drive aggressively.

I guess that’s the dilemma: do you prioritize grip or longevity when you choose your tires?

And let’s face it, if there were a way to combine both, that would be the ultimate tire! Until then, I’ll take the laughs over the wear.

I’ve had both tires on my car. The Pilot Sport 4S definitely lasted longer than the Super Sport. I was surprised by the tread wear on the Super Sport; it was much quicker than I expected!

Interesting! I’ve mostly heard that the Super Sport provides better grip, but I guess that’s at the cost of tire wear. What do you feel about durability in general?

From my experience, the Pilot Sport 4S has a fantastic balance of grip and longevity. I got nearly 20k miles with aggressive driving, which is quite impressive! Super Sport didn’t get close to that.

I agree with you, pfisher! I think if you’re looking for longevity, the Pilot Sport 4S is the clear winner. However, the Super Sport is unbeatable on a track.

I had a friend who switched from Super Sport to Pilot Sport 4S. He mentioned the 4S was much quieter too, which made a noticeable difference in everyday driving. Anyone else notice that?

That’s great to know, cbryant! Quietness can really enhance the driving experience. But for someone like me who just loves performance, I might lean towards the Super Sport regardless of wear.
