Best All-Season tire for Toyota Tacoma

The best tires for Toyota Tacoma will not only work off-road, but they will offer excellent handling, traction, and grip on pavement too, and they should even be quiet and comfortable.

Click to Tweet

The Toyota Tacoma is one of the most popular mid-size pickups on the market due to several different qualities. First of all, it brings the legendary Toyota reliability in the pickup class – Tacoma’s last for a really, really long time. Second, it comes with strong and durable chassis, and last but not the least, it’s known for its excellent off-road capabilities, especially in the TRD model that’s in a league of its own.

There are plenty of Tacoma models to choose from, but whatever the model, you’ll need good tires to make the most out of it. Being an all terrain vehicle, the Tacoma will often find itself out of the road on some pretty challenging courses. Sure, the Tacoma has all the technology needed to tackle even the most demanding terrains, but without the right tire, you might get stuck sooner than you expected.

But what about driving performance and comfort on the road? The best tires for Tacoma will not only work off-road, but they will offer excellent handling, traction, and grip on pavement too, and they should even be quiet and comfortable.

That’s why choosing the right tire for Toyota Tacoma may be a very challenging process. To help you with that, we’ve created a Top 10 list of the best tires for that vehicle. In that list, we’ve included five premium and five budget tires, and we also tried to put every type of tire you might actually need with the Tacoma.

Before we start with the details, let’s have a look at all different tire types for the Tacoma, so you can easily determine which one is the best for you and your specific needs.

What to look for when choosing the best tires for Toyota Tacoma in 2024?

Most SUV and Crossover owners never venture off-road with their vehicles, even when they’re equipped with a proper 4x4 system. They only buy them for the image. However, that’s not always the case with the Toyota Tacoma. In most instances, owners of Tacoma drive the vehicle on light terrain, and in some instances even in heavy terrain.

That’s why, the best tires for Toyota Tacoma must be able to at least offer all terrain capability, if not full-fledged off-road capability. And not just that – they should also be quiet and comfortable, and be good on the road. In other words, the best tire type for the Toyota Tacoma is all terrain tires. The best all terrain tires for Toyota Tacoma will offer good performance in almost every driving scenario, and they will also last for a long time.

That said, if you drive your Tacoma mostly off-road, you’ll need specialized off-road tires. These tires are at their best out of the road, offering advanced traction in the most demanding situations. On the other hand, they are much worse on the road and generally have worse handling abilities and produce more noise.

what are the best tires for Toyota Tacoma

While we are talking about off-road tires, let’s have a look at the different types of terrains you might encounter. There are mud tires for Toyota Tacoma, which as their name implies work best in the mud. There are tires for driving over big rocks, and there are even winter off-road tires. If you thought that all off-road tires work in the winter, you’d be wrong – you still need a specialized winter or snow tire in heavy snow.

That said, there are Tacoma drivers that only use their vehicles on the road, or in other words, buy their vehicle for the image. If you fall into that category (we really don’t judge), you’ll need road tires. These tires work best on the road and offer excellent handling abilities in wet and dry conditions. With a set of road tires, the Tacoma will also have improved fuel economy, and it will also be faster and nimbler. Road tires are separated in several categories by themselves, including all season, all weather, summer and winter tires, but we think that a good set of all season tires will do the job just fine if you drive only on the road.

There are other things to consider when choosing a tire for the Toyota Tacoma. For example, if you install bigger off-road tires you will gain the ability to tackle the most demanding terrains, but the vehicle will be slower on the road, have much worse handling and ultimately, it will have worse fuel economy. The reason for that is weight – the bigger the tire, the more it weights.

You should also look into tread warranty when choosing tires for your Toyota Tacoma. The Japanese pickup is a large and heavy vehicle, which puts more pressure on the tires than a normal car does. Driving off-road also has a negative effect on the tire longevity. A longer warranty often means that the tire will last for longer between changes.

After we’ve cleared things out, let’s start with our list. We’ve tried to include every type of tire on the list, so everybody can find their favorites. In other words, don’t just rush and choose the first one, as it may not suit your particular needs. So, let’s start!

Top 10 Best Tires for Toyota Tacoma in 2024

A. Premium Tires

1. BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2

Best all terrain tires for Toyota Tacoma

BFGoodrich All-Terrain TA KO2

BFGoodrich is a tire manufacturer that’s known for their off-road and all terrain tires, so it’s not a surprise that the best tire on our list comes from them. The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 brings the best all terrain capabilities to your Toyota Tacoma – it’s a combination of excellent off-road ability and on-road performance and stability.

The best thing about the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 is how good it is off-road. With a set of these tires, you can tackle rocky terrain and mud without any particular drama. The All-Terrain T/A KO2 is also very good in ice and snow, something that can’t be said about other all terrain tires. BFGoodrich achieved this by a combination of interlocking tread blocks, loose object ejection, and Sidewall armor, carefully put together by a computer-optimized design.

Thanks to that, this is not only a tire that’s good off-road but one that’s very durable too. BFGoodrich offers 50,000-mile tread warranty, which is one of the best for an all terrain tire. With a set of these tires, you’ll be sure that they will last you for several seasons.

Now, a lot of other tires on the market offer excellent off-road abilities, but none of them combines that with great on-road performance as good as the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2. This tire offers good handling and grips the road really well, and it is also very comfortable and quiet for an all terrain tire. Hell, it’s even 3PMSF rated for light snow driving – a real jack of all trades.

2. BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3

Best mud tires for Toyota Tacoma

BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3

BFGoodrich is so good at making all terrain and off-road tires, that they took up the second place on our list as well. This time, it’s their model for driving in the mud – the Mud-Terrain T/A KM3. This is a specialized tire, which means that it will not work for every Toyota Tacoma driver, but if you often go off-road, and especially of that road happens to be covered with mud, this is the tire to choose.

And how not to choose it when you know that BFGoodrich has installed their racing technology into the Mud-Terrain T/A KM3. The Krawl-Tek compound enhances traction and drivability on rock and slick surfaces – don’t worry, this tire is good on all terrains. The Terrain-Attack tread design, on the other hand, helps in mud – with a set of BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires, your Tacoma will never get stuck in the mud again! This tire simply bites into anything it will encounter, especially if your Tacoma is equipped with 4x4 all-wheel-drive system.

However, there is one area where this tire is not so good at, and that’s snow driving. A well-informed off-road driver will know that mud-terrain tires don’t work in freezing conditions, but we must note that here. The Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 simply lacks the biting edges winter or snow tires have to be able to tackle more demanding winter conditions.

3. Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus

Best road tires for Toyota Tacoma

Cooper Discoverer HTP

We started our list with a pretty strong lineup of BF Goodrich terrain tires, but what about Tacoma owners who use their vehicle mostly on the road? Don’t worry, we have a great choice for you too. The Cooper Discoverer HTP is an excellent choice for the Toyota Tacoma because it offers a blend of characteristics that are unbeatable in this class when it comes to driving on the road.

With the Cooper Discoverer HTP, you can expect great traction, grip, and handling in a variety of conditions, thanks to the asymmetrical tread design and R-Tech construction technology. This tire is not only great in dry conditions on the road, but it is also very good in wet conditions thanks to the serpentine sipes and biting edges. They also help in the winter and in snowy conditions – this is a real all season tire!

Other than giving the driver confidence while driving down the road, the Cooper Discoverer HTP is also very quiet and comfortable, especially when compared with all terrain or off-road tire. With a set of these tires, your Tacoma will be quiet like never before.

Add to all of this a long 65,000-mile tread warranty, and long tread life, and you have the best road tire for Toyota Tacoma bar none.

4. Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX

Best off-road tire for Toyota Tacoma

Cooper Tires Discoverer S/T MAXX

All terrain tires are the jack of all trades when it comes to on-road and off-road driving, but they still don’t hold a candle to specialized off-road tires when it comes to off-road driving. If you’re into serious off-roading, the best choice is the Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX. We know, that’s another Cooper tire on our list, but the reality in the off-road world is that the fight is between BF Goodrich and Cooper.

The Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX is equipped with multiple block edges for great clawing action on soft terrain, stone ejector ribs for owners who want to venture on rocky roads, and even in-block sipes. This tire is made to encounter every possible off-road situation and it achieves it with flying marks. That said, this tire is not at its best when it comes to mud driving – for best mud experience, we suggest going for the BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3.

Other than being very capable off-road, the Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX is also very durable and should last you a long time before you need to change them. That’s true even if you use them on very demanding off-road trails.

5. Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2

Best all season tire for Toyota Tacoma

Cooper Tires Discoverer S/T MAXX

$70 Prepaid Mastercard by mail when you purchase a set of four select Bridgestone tires.

Valid through Oct 12, 2020

Available at TireRack.comDiscountTire.com

Let’s say that you’re not into serious off-roading and just want a good all season tire that will improve the Tacoma dynamically when it comes to on-road driving. The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 is the right tire for you and your needs, because not only it offers excellent on-road abilities, but it isn’t shy from a little bit of off-road driving.

Okay, don’t expect a magnificent off-road performance like you would with the BF Goodrich’ and Cooper’s of the world, but for short excursions out of the road, the Dueler A/T Revo should do just fine. And it will not only be capable of the road courtesy of the open shoulders, but it will also be very durable in off-road driving thanks to the stable shoulder blocks.

The best thing about this Bridgestone tire is that it offers better performance than other all terrain tires on the road. The secret lies in the lightweight design which improves acceleration, braking, and handling on the Tacoma. The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 is also very capable in wet conditions – the Semi-Stealth technology is great at repelling water from the surface of the tire.

There’s one thing where this Bridgestone falls short and that’s winter driving. It’s good enough for the casual driver in light snow, but you should install a real winter tire when the weather gets much worse.

B. Budget Tires

6. Dick Cepek Extreme Country

Best budget off-road tire for Toyota Tacoma

Dick Cepek Extreme Country

When you purchase a set of four (4) select Dick Cepek tires you may be eligible to receive $100 by mail-in rebate

Valid through Oct, 15, 2020 at TireRack.comTirebuyer.com

It’s good to know that for achieving great off-road performance with your Toyota Tacoma, you don’t need to have a very deep budget. Dick Cepek has some very capable off-road tires, one of which is the Extreme Country. This tire is great at almost every terrain while costing less than premium tires.

The Dick Cepek Extreme Country has very deep treads which look great on vehicles such as the Tacoma, but more importantly, they make this tire extremely capable in almost every off-road situation. And when we say every off-road situation, we mean it – the Extreme Country can tackle rocky terrain, mud, and even snow – it’s M/S (mud and snow) rated. With the Dick Cepek Extreme Country, you can be certain that your Tacoma will not get stuck regardless of the terrain.

The Dick Cepek Extreme Country is also very durable thanks to the High Tensile Ply Cord. The aggressive tread pattern, on the other hand, means that this tire will not get easily punctured – very important for Tacoma owners who drive their vehicles far from the civilization.

There is one area where this tire falls short of premium tires and that’s comfort – it can be pretty loud on the highway. That said, it deals with bumps on the road pretty well for the type of tire it is.

7. Kumho Road Venture AT51

Best budget all terrain tire for Toyota Tacoma

Kumho Road Venture AT51 All-Season Radial Tire

When you purchase set of four (4) select Kumho tires you may be eligible to receive a $75 Tire Rack Prepaid Mastercard by mail-in rebate.

Valid through Sept 30, 2020
Available at
Tirerack.com

All terrain tires can often be very expensive, especially for owners of older Tacoma’s. That is unless you opt for the Kumho Road Venture AT51. These tires offer great all terrain capabilities, albeit at a lower price point when compared to premium tires. We said that we will put a tire for every Tacoma owner out there, and the Kumho Road Venture AT51 is a proof of that.

This tire looks like a serious truck tire that can withstand a lot of abuse, and in reality, it really can (it comes with very good 55,000-mile tread warranty). It’s made of a new dual silica tread compound that is resistant to punctures, cuts and bruising. This is very important for a tire that will be used on all types of terrain and it’s certainly not something you often see in budget tires.

Other than durability the Kumho Road Venture AT51 offers great off-road traction as well. The full-depth stepped circumferential grooves are great for gravel roads, while the tapered tread blocks give better clean out capabilities for other types of off-road driving. Surprisingly for the price, the Kumho Road Venture AT51 even offers excellent wet and snow performance – it has the mountain snowflake symbol on it.

This tire is also very quiet on the road, which is another big plus when you look at the price.  That said, it doesn’t offer a very smooth ride on bumpy roads and it suffers in mud when compared to other all terrain tires. Those are only minor negative – this is still an amazing tire for the price.

8. Toyo Open Country A/T II

Another great all terrain budget alternative

Toyo Open Country A/T II

Here we have another great budget option for Tacoma owners – the Toyo Open Country A/T II. This Japanese tire will suit great your Japanese truck, and not only because they originate from the same country. The Toyo Open Country A/T II is a very capable all terrain tire and it’s also a good option for buyers seeking a good, budget all season solution.

You can expect great traction on gravel, dirt, and rocks on this tire, or in other words, most of the off-road driving your Tacoma will encounter. The Toyo Open Country A/T II is even good for mud terrain driving, but you shouldn’t expect miracles – this is still an all terrain tire. All in all, off-road performance is solid, albeit not at the level of the BF Goodrich or Cooper tires. For the price though, it’s acceptable.

And despite offering solid off-road performance at a budget price point, the Toyo Open Country A/T II is good for on-road driving as well, with good grip and handling in wet and dry conditions. The long 65,000-mile tread warranty beats even some premium tires and is a reason more to buy this tire and install it on your Tacoma.

9. General Tire Grabber AT2

Best budget off-road focused all terrain tire for Toyota Tacoma

Up to $100 Prepaid Visa by mail when you purchase a set of four select General tires.

Valid through Oct 31, 2020

Available at Tirerack.comDiscounttire.com, Tirebuyer.com

If you are on a budget, but still want a good all terrain tire that will work in desert-type scenarios, then the General Tire Grabber AT2 is a great choice. This product is very durable and capable of off-road driving, while also offering very good all season capability on the road. The best thing about it is that it offers all those characteristics at a much lower price point than premium tires.

This tire is designed for any type of terrain. However, we find it being best-suited for rocky terrains, gravel, and sand, even though it’s still very capable in the mud. As a matter of fact, if you compare it to other all terrain tires out there, it offers better off-road capability in almost every condition. It falls short only to real off-road tires. Being an all season tire, the General Tire Grabber AT2 is also very capable in the snow – another great plus for the price.

There is one area where this tire falls short when compared to premium all terrain tires though, and that’s quietness. If you drive mostly on the highway, you may find it a bit louder than other tires in this category.

10. Yokohama YK-HTX

Best budget all season tire for Toyota Tacoma

Yokohama YK HTX

Get a FREE Spartan race entry (up to $190 value) when you purchase a set of four select Yokohama tires.

Valid through Sept 30, 2020
Available at
TireRack.comDiscountTire.com

The Yokohama YK HTX is not the cheapest all season tires for Toyota Tacoma out there, but it is still cheaper than most premium tires.

Despite that, it offers great performance in almost every condition when it comes to on-road driving. As a matter of fact, we think it’s one of the best all season tires for Toyota Tacoma regardless of price.

The Yokohama YK HTX is made of a compound with high silica content and orange oil. This helps it achieve strength in warmer weather for more precise handling, and to be more pliable in the winter for better stability and traction in snow. This is an all season tire in the true sense of the word – it provides the driver with precise handling in dry conditions, excellent traction in wet conditions, and even very good traction in snow.

Being an on-road focused tire, the Yokohama YK HTX is also very quiet and comfortable. It’s actually one of the best in this regard. You can expect your Tacoma to be much quieter when driving on the highway with the Yokohama YK HTX. Thanks to the two steel belts and polyester cord body, this Japanese all season tire is also very durable – Yokohama gives amazing 70,000-mile tread warranty.

However, we advise against using this tire off-road, as it’s not made for that type of driving.

Conclusion

We hope that we’ve helped you choose the best tire for you and your needs with this Top 10 list. Sure, there are a lot of other tire types for the Tacoma, but those are more specialized tires. And to be honest, if you are seeking that types of tires, you already know what you’re looking for.

Before we finish, one last piece of advice – rotate your tires on every oil maintenance and be sure to clean them from rocks and debris after a long off-road session. That way you’ll be sure that they will keep their performance in the long run, improving your Tacoma drivability and safety. Only then you’ll be sure that your car will have the best possible performance and you and your family will be safe on the road with our list of best tires for Toyota Tacoma in 2024.

  1. Unfortunately most of them are for off road – I\’m looking for winter tires that perform well on ice but have will last, something like Nokia Hakkapelita but maybe cheaper. Also I decided on narrower 245 width to provide better traction.
